Jane Austen, Georgian Elegance & Sheer Inspiration
It's going to be a big year for Jane Austen devotees. The quiet beauty of her world—the candlelit glow, the whisper of muslin gowns, and the elegance of Regency design—never tires. As it happens, a few of my own designs have their roots in places she once knew.
A Kintbury Connection
Earlier this year, I watched Miss Austen, the BBC’s latest adaptation, set in the village of Kintbury. It brought back memories of designing my Rachel’s Cottage wallpaper, inspired by a childhood friend's cottage opposite the church there.
As a child, I always felt the cottage was very special, not knowing that Jane often stayed at the vicarage with family friends. I can't help thinking she must have visited the very house that inspired my pattern—for what else was there to do but knock on neighbours' doors for tea and chatter away the hours?
The Lightness of Georgian Muslins
If you’ve ever admired the flowing muslins of a Regency heroine, you’ll understand why I spent hours as a teenager at the Fashion Museum, Bath studying their beauty. A well-spent youth whilst all my friends were in Topshop! A sign of things to come...
That airy, weightless quality was exactly what I wanted to capture in my new sheer linen voile collection—a balance of light and privacy, with patterns that feel timeless yet fresh.
I listened to Dario Marianelli’s Pride & Prejudice soundtrack on repeat whilst I designed the collection (perhaps you’d like to listen too? Here’s the Spotify link).
An Audience with Lucy Worsley
A must-see! Lucy always brings history to life with a fresh insight into the historical figures we think we know. Lovely to see it being held in Bath too.
